Associate Degree Nursing Faculty
Brookhaven College
Brenda Routh has been a registered nurse (RN) for 30 years, having begun her nursing career at Kern Medical Center in California, working in its medical/surgical unit for low-income and very ill county patients, where organization skills were key to professional survival.
She graduated from California State University in Bakersfield (CSUB) with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing and holds a certificate in gerontology from the University of North Texas.
Her interest in palliative (end-of-life) care is longstanding. She worked as an RN on a skilled nursing unit where she cared for many elderly patients facing end-of-life issues and developed the end-of-life course that is part of Brookhaven’s Nursing curriculum. She believes students must have the knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on the lives of patients and families facing this issue.
Ms. Routh has served as DCCCD faculty for 16 years and loves teaching; she currently teaches fundamentals of nursing.
