“After graduating from high school, I decided that I would like to open my own hair salon. When I came to register at Cedar Valley for the first time, the advisor asked me what my major was and I really wasn’t sure, but I said I wanted to have my own business. The advisor informed me that a degree in marketing would be excellent for me and would provide me with the essentials I needed to start a business.

“The learning experience was phenomenal. I gained knowledge and valuable experience I still use today. After graduating from Cedar Valley with an associate degree in sales, marketing and retail management, I had a new outlook on life and found a new interest in education. Now I have a career I love.

“One of the greatest things about my experience at DCCCD was the faculty. They were very hands-on and made sure that everyone in the class understood the topics discussed. The faculty was there every step of the way offering me support, encouragement and assistance when needed.

“DCCCD provided me with a foundation that has helped me in my educational and professional endeavors. I would encourage any student to make DCCCD their first choice when deciding to pursue a degree or certificate. And who knows — I still may open a hair salon some day.”

Timica Hamilton is an instructional specialist II and adjunct faculty member for the Management, Marketing and Business Administration programs at Cedar Valley College. She provides instructional support to traditional and distance education students who are pursuing degrees or certificates in one or more of the college’s degree programs. 

Timica earned a bachelor’s degree in applied technology and performance improvement from the University of North Texas and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in training and performance improvement from Capella University.
