Instructor and Associate Vice President, Workforce and Continuing Education
Brookhaven College

Vernon L. Hawkins currently serves as the associate vice president of Workforce and Continuing Education at Brookhaven College and has more than 25 years of experience in information technology, education and training. He holds several industry certifications, including Certified Novell Administrator (CNA), Certified Novell Instructor (CNI), KASET Customer Service and Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP). He previously worked for eight years as a program director for the Continuing Education, Community Service and Workforce Development divisions at Richland College and for eight years as computer science/information technology faculty at Mountain View College, including two years as the Computer Science/Information Technology department chair, and five years as the executive dean of Career and Technical Education.

He has been listed in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and Who’s Who in Business and Industry, and has participated in the American Association of Community Colleges’ Future Leader Institute and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Senior Fellows program. Mr. Hawkins serves on the board of directors for St. Philip’s School and Community Center, a private school in South Dallas. He holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational administration/information processing from Oklahoma State University and a master’s degree in management from Amber University. He is currently completing his doctoral dissertation for a doctoral degree in educational administration from Baylor University.
