“I always wanted to do game design, but I actually came to Richland College to get the basics. I just got lucky and found this program opening right at the time I started classes here.
“When I play a game, I’m looking for something realistic. I don’t think violent games are harmful if you pay attention to the maturity level of the kid and have good parenting in place. I’ve been playing Doom since I was 4, but you don’t see me going around and killing people.
“Level Design has been my favorite class so far. I came in knowing nothing about making a game, but after this one class, I can hold my own designing a level. The instructor, Dan Dao, is very detailed when showing us how to use the software. I can still go back to my notes from my first class with him to find the answers to questions that come up.
“I guess my dream job would be to design video games. Personally, I like horror games — something that scares people and gives them a thrill.
“I would recommend this program because after you take classes here you’ll know what to expect at a four-year university. I plan to get my bachelor’s degree in arts and technology, hopefully at UTD.”
