Administrative Manager, Human Resources
Residence Inn by Marriott, D/FW North
“I started my bachelor’s degree in political science in Germany, where my father was based in the foreign service. After we returned to Bangladesh, I continued working on my studies. Then I came to the U.S., married and had a child; all the while, I kept taking courses.
“I had already been working as a hotel desk clerk for five years when I decided to earn my associate degree in Hospitality Management from North Lake College. When I took classes in human resources, it got me more and more curious about the field, and I became interested in directing my career that way.
“Working in HR is a good job because it involves helping people, and helping people find solutions in turn makes you feel good. The most important thing I learned at North Lake was that teamwork is very important.
“I enjoyed all of my classes at North Lake, especially the ones with Arthur James. I took evening classes since they perfectly fit my schedule and family life. I found the North Lake instructors to be very caring compared with a university; they make a real effort to be in touch with their students. They always take the time to make an appointment and talk with you.
“For anyone who wants to earn a college degree, I think community college is the best start. You can get your inspiration for your career and find out what you really want to do with your education.”
