How to Get Started
To get started in the Educational Personnel program, complete the admissions process at Richland College.
When you meet with an academic advisor, mention your interest in the Educational Personnel program so he or she can help you determine which courses you should take.
If you are planning to earn an associate degree or certificate, please note that you must complete 25 percent of your degree requirements at the college awarding the degree.
Tuition
Dallas County residents pay $123 per three-hour class — that’s $41 per credit hour, or less than $500 for a full semester load of 12 credit hours.
Compare that to what you’d pay elsewhere! See DCCCD tuition rates for tuition according to your place of residency.
Courses Offered (Curriculum)
The Educational Personnel program, offered at Richland College, offers a Teacher Assistant/Aide Associate in Applied Sciences degree.
Specializations are available in:
- Bilingual/Bicultural Education, providing training to assist children in dual-language instruction in the pre-K through 4 classroom setting; or
- English as a Second Language, preparing students to assist children in English language acquisition in the pre-K through 12th grade classroom setting
|
The associate degree can serve as:
- stand-alone preparation for immediate entry into the workforce as a teacher assistant or aide, preparing paraprofessional educators to meet the No Child Left Behind requirements; or
- the first two years of college credit for students intending to transfer to a four-year university to earn a bachelor’s degree and become certified to teach early childhood through fourth grade. Articulation (transfer) agreements with the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Woman’s University ensure students who receive their associate degree in Richland’s Educational Personnel program have transferable credits.

Transferring From DCCCD
The Educational Personnel program can prepare you for direct entry into the workforce as a teacher assistant, but it may also be counted as the first two years of college credit if you are interested in earning a bachelor’s degree in education. Transfer (articulation) agreements are in place with the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Woman’s University for students who earn a DCCCD Educational Personnel associate degree.
DCCCD also offers other transferable, education-related programs. For general information about and guidance on the university transfer process, please visit the Transfer Services Web site.
