Lead Paramedic Faculty and American Heart Association Coordinator
Jason Thornton began teaching EMS courses at Brookhaven College as an adjunct faculty member in 2004 and full-time in 2006. He is currently a firefighter/paramedic for the Allen Fire Department, running on 911 calls for all medical and fire emergencies. He has also worked for Methodist Hospital of Dallas’ paramedic program and as a paramedic for Rockwall County EMS.
A graduate of North Mesquite High School, he holds an associate degree in EMS from Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs, Colo., and an associate degree in fire science - basic firefighter from Collin County Community College. His initial education was through Metrocrest Medical Services, now adopted by Brookhaven College, and he is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in emergency management administration from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas.
His certifications include state of Texas licensed paramedic, National Registry paramedic, state of Texas paramedic instructor, and provider and instructor for ACLS, AMLS, PHTLS, PALS, BLS and PEPP. Certifications from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection include firefighter intermediate, driver/operator pumper, fire officer I and fire service instructor II.
