Lead Vascular Sonographer
The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano

“I started out going for a nursing degree. However, nursing was not for me in the end, so I researched ultrasound after seeing a picture of a sonogram. I found an accredited school in Dallas — and that was the El Centro program. I came to Dallas to interview and was accepted into the program. The most appealing aspect of the program was the accreditation. This ensures quality didactics in clinical rotations.

“Since August 2007 I have served as lead vascular sonographer at The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano. I am responsible for all diagnostic vascular sonograms and some general imaging as well. I have also cross-trained four other sonographers in vascular/general ultrasonography while I have been working here. The future plans for this hospital include expanding and improving the vascular program, and I plan to be actively involved in that process.

“I feel the El Centro program prepared me quite successfully for my career in ultrasound. I was able to successfully pass the required courses and was fortunate enough in the program to take on additional courses available to me at the time. I would highly recommend this program to anyone who is considering a career in sonography.”

Daniel J. O’Neill earned an associate degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from El Centro College in 1990, with additional studies in peripheral vascular disease and non-invasive vascular procedures, at El Centro. He was published in the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography in 2002.
