photo of Kerby Stewart

The Cedar Valley College community mourns the loss of Kerby Stewart, who developed the recording courses and helped develop the curriculum for the Recording Technology option of the Commercial Music program. He died Feb. 12, 2008, at the age of 60.

A popular recording engineer and double bassist who performed regularly with the N’Awlins Gumbo Kings, his career of more than 40 years included tours with the North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) band, the Stan Kenton Orchestra, the Woody Herman Orchestra and UNT’s acclaimed 1:00 Lab Band.

He performed with Dallas and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestras, with the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo Band and for the Ice Capades and Dallas Summer Musicals. A freelance engineer in the metroplex area for 25 years, he engineered and performed jingles, film sound tracks and television sound tracks and performed on many albums.

He was a graduate of Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in radio, television and film and studied at the University of North Texas in music and computer science.

Respected musician, professor, friend and colleague, Kerby Stewart will be missed by all.
