Job Growth Statistics

  • The job outlook for programmers in the state of Texas is expected to increase at a much higher rate, 11 percent, than for the nation as a whole (2 percent) (Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook).
  • In 2004, programmers earned a median annual salary of $64,000, or about $31 per hour (America’s Career Infonet).
  • Jobs for systems analysts in Texas are expected to increase about 32 percent through the year 2012, creating more than 50,000 job openings.
  • Median salaries for systems analysts in 2004 were $67,500 a year, or about $32 an hour.
  • The top 75 percent of systems analysts earned more than $83,000 a year.
  • For database administrators there will be an estimated 38 percent increase in job openings in Texas through 2012, representing almost 10,000 new positions for database administrators.
  • Median salaries for database administrators were $61,900 a year in 2004, or almost $30 per hour.
  • The top 75 percent of database administrators earned more than $82,000 a year.

Earthweb’s 2007 IT Salary Guide lists the following average national salaries in 2007, adding an additional 6 percent for the Dallas metropolitan area:

  • Developer/programmers — $55,250-$90,250
  • Business systems analysts — $61,250-$86,250

Degrees, Certificates and Other Awards

Our modular program structure builds blocks of skills with a variety of programming languages. You can earn individual certificates or build up to an associate degree.

Database awards require basic understanding of personal computers and operating systems as obtained in ITSC 1401, BCIS 1405 or COSC 1401, and problem solving, logic structure and relational database concepts as obtained in ITSC 2435 and either ITSW 1307/1407 or ITSE 1346 or equivalent experience approved by designated Information Technology personnel.
