Job Growth Statistics
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook and America’s Career Infonet:
- Job openings for computer support specialists are expected to rise steadily over the next decade, increasing up to 25 percent in Texas through 2012.
- The median annual salary range in 2004 (the last year for which statistics were available) was around $39,000, with the top 90 percent in the job category earning more than $66,000 a year.
- Median hourly salaries were around $19 an hour.
- About 42 percent of computer support specialists have had at least some college education.

- The average national salary in 2007 for help desk managers ranges from $62,500 to $88,250, with about a 6 percent increase over those figures for the Dallas metropolitan area.

Degrees, Certificates and Other Awards
Personal Computer Support awards require basic understanding of personal computers and operating systems as obtained in ITSC 1401, BCIS 1405 or COSC 1401 or equivalent experience approved by designated Information Technology personnel.
