Mapping Supervisor
Dallas Water Utilities Department
“It was my interest in drawing as a child that got me interested in drafting in high school, and it just progressed to Eastfield College’s CADD program. The best part of my DCCCD experience — aside from the education — was the positive attitude and confidence it gave me in my job. My DCCCD education gave me the tools to understand the CAD, GIS and GPS systems we implemented. The most important thing I learned was the process to design a project on paper.
“In my 33 years with the city of Dallas, I have been privileged to be a part of a number of accomplishments. I supervised the water department’s progression from manual drafting to computer aided drafting and the development of the water and wastewater geographical information systems. We implemented the use of global positioning systems by our tie crews in the field to gather as built information. I have also converted the water department’s engineering vaults from paper to an electronic format.
“I would like to thank Michael Kirkpatrick and Micheal Hutchins for the education and confidence they had in me. I recommend this program to other students because of all the new and interesting technology associated with it.”
