Engineering Assistant Fontaine Modifications Co. “My dad is a circuit board designer; he’s the one that got me interested in drafting. I really like the challenge of designing things on the computer. “The best part of my experience at Richland is working in drafting; I really like working with my hands. One of my final projects in my Drafting 1405 class was totally related to my work. I designed a valve pump for my class project and then actually designed one on my job. “I’ve really gotten a lot out of my classes with Brian Fleming. He teaches what’s going on in the real world. He’s really good about that. He and (adjunct faculty member) Pat Zipper stayed with all of us in class when it got down to the wire on our class projects. It really took all of us working together to get it done, and they stayed late a lot of times to help us finish our projects.” Jordan Capper is a current Richland College student working towards an associate degree in Engineering Technology-CAD. He also works as an engineering assistant for Fontaine Modifications Co. in Dallas, which manufactures truck bodies and body parts, wholesale water purification equipment, and retail truck equipment and parts.
As part of the company’s two-person engineering team, Jordan helps to design modifications including steering wheels, brackets and frames on commercial vehicles such as 18-wheelers, dump trucks, ambulances and fire trucks. He plans to eventually become an automotive engineer and design new automobile bodies.
