“I began going to Eastfield College the first semester that the college opened, in the fall of 1970. But I didn’t know what I wanted to do or get my education in. I had a friend in the drafting field who was making two times the salary I was making, so I decided I would take some drafting classes. After a year of classes, I got my first drafting job, customizing architectural designs to shop drawings. I worked there for a year, then for the next six years designing custom homes for another firm.
“Since I was paying for college myself, I took my education very seriously. I was on the Dean’s Honor List and caught the attention of several of my professors at Eastfield. I started my own business in 1978.
“Taking just one year of drafting classes taught me the basic skills that I use in my work today and pass on to people who do work for me. Although it was manual drafting and common sense knowledge back then, it’s all still the same skills. My education at Eastfield helped me to deal with people more knowledgeably.”
Don Henderson Jr. attended Eastfield College drafting classes for a year in 1970 and then attended UTA. He has served on Eastfield’s CADD Advisory Board for more than 15 years. Henderson Design and Associates Inc. is an architectural design firm for residential properties, including condominiums, townhouses and lofts.
