The BOSS program has added an exciting new opportunity for students: the Medical Front Office Skills Achievement Award, offered at Brookhaven College as of Fall 2007.
A growing number of employers need employees who are skilled in computer knowledge, diversity, teamwork, communication, interpersonal skills and Internet skills to meet the needs of today’s medical office. As a Medical Front Office student, you’ll receive training in the most commonly used medical terminology, medical office procedures, medical software applications, medical basic coding and medical insurance.
Courses Offered (Curriculum)
To earn the Medical Front Office Skills Achievement Award, you’ll compete a two-semester curriculum that includes five courses, earning a total of 14 college credits or 27.2 Continuing Education (CE) credits. The curriculum is designed to prepare you to work in a variety of health care settings, including hospitals, medical clinics and doctors’ offices.
First semester courses, offered for the first time in the Fall 2007 semester, include:
- MDCA 1213 Medical Terminology — two credit hours
- POFM 1309 Medical Office Procedures — three credit hours
- POFM 1302 Medical Software Applications — three credit hours
|
All of the above courses are offered as on-campus evening courses on Brookhaven’s campus, or entirely online.
Second semester courses, offered for the first time in the Spring 2008 semester, include:
- POFM 1300 Medical Coding Basics — three credit hours
- POFM 1327 Medical Insurance — three credit hours
|
Both of these courses are also offered on-campus at Brookhaven or completely online.
