Revenue Agent
Internal Revenue Service

“After serving in the U.S. Army, I was determined to take advantage of the GI Bill. I did not know what I wanted to major in; I just went for general studies. One of the classes that I had to take was accounting. I did really well in accounting and Dr. Suryakant Desai started encouraging me to major in accounting.

“The teachers made the difference. They were all very approachable. I would particularly like to thank Dr. Desai, who became my mentor. I changed my major to accounting and subsequently received a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

“My DCCCD education was the foundation for my career. I have recommended Cedar Valley’s accounting program to many people. My niece graduated in May of 2007. I would like to think that the reason she attended was because I told her of the positive experiences I had at Cedar Valley.”

Rogelio Vera attended Cedar Valley College from 1993 to 1995, earning two associate degrees in General Studies and one in Business Administration. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Arlington.

As a revenue agent for the IRS, he audits the books and records of sole proprietors, partnerships, LLCs, LLPs and small corporations with under $10 million in assets. He has traveled to New Mexico, Georgia, Italy and Greece to instruct judges advocate general how to prepare income tax returns for military personnel.

The recipient of several performance awards and managers’ awards, he has been part of the North Texas, National and International Military Income Tax Instructor Cadre.
