The Journey to Success program helps DCCCD students achieve their academic and career goals by connecting them with services and information they need to be successful. Journey to Success is available to all DCCCD credit students who need help or guidance to achieve their goals.
How Does the Program Work?
You are teamed up with a success coach who volunteers his or her time to help you overcome obstacles and achieve your dreams. The success coach may be an instructor, advisor, student services representative or an administrator. All of the success coaches are DCCCD employees and have received training on how to be an effective coach.
How Will the Success Coach Contact Me?
If you have been invited to participate in the program or wish to participate and have contacted the Journey to Success coordinator at your college, your success coach will contact you by email or telephone. Make sure that your official records in eConnect have up-to-date phone numbers and email addresses so your success coach will be able to reach you. (You can check and update your contact information by logging in to your eConnect account and clicking on the “Change Email Address” and “Update Phone Numbers” links under My Personal Information.)
What Do Success Coaches Do?
Success coaches will provide you with support and encouragement when you need it. They also may assist you with the following:
- Referral to free student services
- Grant and scholarship information
- Library resources
- Personal counseling referrals
- Study skills
- Time management
Success coaches will not replace your instructors or the free tutoring that is available at your college.
What If I Have Questions?
For more information, contact the success coach (retention) coordinator at your college.
The Journey to Success program was developed by DCCCD’s Office of Workforce Education and Retention in collaboration with a task force of representatives from all nine locations (seven colleges, the District Service Center and the LeCroy Center) to improve student retention.
