The purpose of this Basic Search Options page is to help you select the best database for your project. For other ways of searching, see Other Search Options.

Browse Database Titles. If you know the name of the database you want to search, you can find it here.

What Are You Looking For? Browse through the categories to identify relevant databases by topic or type of source. Select the category and click GO. Examples: Astronomy, Company Information, Encyclopedias.

Search Database Descriptions. If there is no category for the area you're researching, type in a keyword or two to get a list of databases associated with that keyword. Click GO. Examples: Architecture, Antiques, News.

Other Search Options. Use this page to identify available databases by course, content type (full text or not), campus, level and language.

Tips:
  • Do not type more than a word or two in the Search Database Descriptions box. Enter detailed search queries once you're actually in the database you've chosen for searching. However ...
  • The quickest way to bring up a known database is to type its name or part of its name in the Search Database Descriptions box. Then click GO.

Reserved Keywords. These words and word combinations can be used to create special lists. Reserved keywords (in bold below) should be entered exactly as shown in the Search Databases Descriptions query box.

  • non360 = Databases that are not included in 360 Search.
  • metafind = Databases that can currently be searched simultaneously in Metafind.
  • endnote = Databases that work with Endnote, the bibliographic formatting software. Most of these also work with similar products like ProCite and RefWorks.

To recommend reserved keywords and revisions in the What Are You Looking For? categories, send your ideas to the  Library Web Team (libweb@dcccd.edu).
