Aviation Technology Degree and Certificate Options

Because of the varied and interrelated aviation career options available, Mountain View’s Aviation Technology program is designed to allow you to take a group of core courses that includes selected aviation, business, English, mathematics and human relations classes, continuing with specialized courses in the specific career option you wish to enter.

Most Aviation Technology courses can be taken online, although if you are just beginning the program we highly recommend that you attend your first 12 college hours in a campus classroom.

All Aviation Technology courses can also be taken as Continuing Education (noncredit) classes.

Professional Pilot

The Professional Pilot Option Associate in Applied Sciences degree provides the flight training and ground school instruction you’ll need to complete commercial pilot and certificated flight instructor certificates. You can also train for the instrument flight instructor certificate and the multi-engine rating.

Admission to this program is in accordance with applicable federal aviation regulations and upon consultation with and approval by an Aviation Technology instructor. Flight fees, simulator fees and fees for pre- and post-flight briefings are in addition to DCCCD tuition.

Aircraft Dispatcher

The job of an aircraft dispatcher is an integral part of the overall flight operations of an airline. A person in this position works in conjunction with an airline pilot and is responsible for regulation compliance, weather analysis and loading procedures prior to takeoff. In this specialization, you’ll have the option to earn an associate degree, which can be completed in approximately two years, or a certificate, which can be competed in about one year.

Entry into either program will be in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and with instructor approval. When you complete the courses in your desired program, we may recommend that you apply to take the FAA knowledge examination and practical examination for aircraft dispatchers.

To earn both the associate degree and the certificate, you must successfully complete all required courses in the Aircraft Dispatcher curriculum and all educational requirements stipulated by the state of Texas, as well as obtain the aircraft dispatcher certificate from the FAA.
