Admission to Brookhaven College

To get started in the Radiologic Sciences program, complete the admissions process at Brookhaven College. When you meet with an academic advisor, mention your interest in the Radiologic Sciences program so he or she can help you determine which courses you should take. If you are planning to earn an associate degree, please note that you must complete 25 percent of your degree requirements at the college awarding the degree.

Program Admission Requirements

  • Be admitted to a DCCCD college and complete the four prerequisite courses (see the Prerequisites section of the catalog listing) with a 3.0 grade point average or higher and a “B” or higher in SCIT 1407 or BIOL 2401.
  • Attend an information session for the program. You can also call the Brookhaven College Advising and Counseling Center at 972-860-4748 for the date and time of the next orientation session or contact the department at bhcRadTech@dcccd.edu or 972-860-4918.
  • Complete an application packet within the designated filing period. Applicants will be required to submit a comprehensive application packet to the BHC Radiologic Sciences office that will be used during the selection process.
  • The selection process contains several criteria that are outlined on the Brookhaven College Radiologic Sciences Program website. Application packets will be available at the information sessions.

Application Filing Period

Students entering the program begin in the Spring semester (January) and graduate in December two years later.

The official application filing period is June 1–Oct. 15, with acceptance letters mailed in November.

Courses Offered (Curriculum)

Our online catalog provides detailed information about the courses we offer and the courses required for the following:

Associate Degree

Brookhaven’s associate degree program accepts 35 students per entering class. Radiologic Sciences classes are admitted every Spring semester (January) and graduate in December two years later.

Certificates

Both certificates are for graduates or students in their last semester of a radiography program or who are registered radiographers by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist licensed by the Texas Department of Health. After prerequisites are fulfilled, each of these certificates can be completed in three semesters.

Clinical Training Experience

The associate degree program clinical training experience, or practicum, begins at 16 hours per week in Semester II, expands to 20 hours per week in Semesters IV and V, and to 30 hours per week in Semester VI. Clinical hours may begin as early as 7 a.m. to as late as 4 p.m.
