With its first classes offered in the Fall of 2011, Mountain View’s Associate Degree Nursing program is 24 months long and leads to the Associate Degree Nursing Associate in Applied Sciences degree. Admission is in the fall only.
After completion of prerequisite courses and admission to the ADN program, courses are completed in four regular-length semesters, excluding summers. Students need to plan two to three hours of studying and preparation time for each hour of class and clinical experience. The demands of the nursing program are such that students may not be able to work full time while enrolled in these courses.
Graduates will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses, commonly referred to as the NCLEX-RN.
Note: Support courses completed at colleges and universities outside DCCCD must be approved for transfer credit prior to the semester in which the course is required as stipulated in the curriculum outline.
How to Get Started
Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing program is by a competitive selection process based on a mathematical formula to compute the applicant’s score.
Information sessions are held at 5 p.m. on select Tuesdays in Room H-27 at Mountain View College and are suggested for everyone interested in MVC’s Associate Degree Nursing program.
See information session dates.

Criminal Background Check and Drug Testing
All students enrolled in DCCCD Health Occupations programs are required by Dallas/Fort Worth Hospital Council member facilities to undergo a criminal background check and drug testing prior to beginning their clinical experience.
Clinical Rotations
To increase students’ preparation for the workplace as a registered nurse, Mountain View’s ADN program maintains a high one-to-three ratio of class time to clinical time (one hour of class for every three hours of clinical rotation).
Tuition
Dallas County residents pay $135 per three-hour class — that’s $45 per credit hour, or less than $550 for a full semester load of 12 credit hours.
Compare that to what you’d pay elsewhere! See DCCCD tuition rates for tuition according to your place of residency.
Rising Star Program
If you are a Dallas County high school graduating senior, you may qualify for Rising Star funds to help pay for this program. The Rising Star program offers academic support services and up to $4,000 for tuition and books, if you have established financial need.

Approval and Accreditation
Accreditation
All seven DCCCD colleges are individually accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Why is accreditation important? Being accredited means that a college has met certain standards of quality set by an independent accrediting agency. Attending an accredited institution is the best way to ensure your degree (and all the hard work that went into it) will be recognized by other colleges and universities when you transfer and by future employers. Federal financial aid is only available to students of accredited colleges and universities.
Mountain View’s Associate Degree Nursing Program has been initially approved by the Texas Board of Nursing (which grants full approval only after the first class graduates, estimated for Mountain View in May 2013), and the program will be applying for accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission Inc. (3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 500; Atlanta, GA. 30326; phone 404-975-5000; fax 404-975-5020). The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has also approved the Associate Degree Nursing program at Mountain View College.
