Are you interested in protecting the environment but also want to make your interests part of your career? Would you like to help make a difference in positive environmental control by being a part of the solution and not the problem?

Take a look at Renewable/Sustainable Energy, a new program offered by Eastfield College and one of a number of green programs growing in Dallas County Community College District. We offer a core associate degree designed for a broad foundation of understanding renewable and sustainable energy sources. Plus, there’s a certificate with options for learning to install solar and wind turbine devices for both residential and commercial use.

Get started today in the Sustainable/Renewable Energy program at DCCCD!

Buildings account for a huge percentage of our economic and environmental resources. If you’re interested in finding out about conserving energy, reducing waste and being more environmentally responsible in the building and remodeling industry, we can provide the knowledge that will allow you to be part of the solution, not the problem.

Whether you’re interested for your personal knowledge, ready to go right to work or want to eventually earn a bachelor’s degree in a related area, we can help you lay a solid, green foundation for your goals in helping to improve the environment.

Renewable/Sustainable Energy Degree and Certificate Options

The Renewable/Sustainable Energy Technician Associate in Applied Sciences Degree prepares students to install solar or wind systems with minimum assistance, emphasizing hands-on training. The curriculum is designed to prepare you to work as an installation technician in solar- and wind-related fields and provides support skills such as troubleshooting, sales, design and management.

The program’s introductory course, Alternative Energy Systems, provides an overview of the industry either for personal enrichment or to see if this is a possible career path. Additional courses include Digital Fundamentals, AC and DC Circuits, Solid State Devices, Solar Fundamentals, Wind Turbine Materials Electromechanical Equipment and Mechanical Principles in Automated Manufacturing. Required academic courses such as Composition, Technical Algebra, Speech Communications and Introductory Statistics provide a well-rounded education.

The Renewable/Sustainable Energy Technician Certificate is a two-semester, 35-credit-hour program with either solar and wind turbine technician options, emphasizing hands-on training that prepares you for work as an entry-level solar or residential wind turbine installer. Courses in either certificate option can be applied towards the Renewable/Sustainable Energy associate degree, and are designed to allow graduates to sit for entry-level national installer certifications.

The certificate has a core curriculum the first semester that includes courses in alternative energy systems, special topics in computer engineering technology, AC and DC circuits, and solid state devices. After completing the first semester, students select the solar or wind turbine option and complete those specific courses for the second semester.
