How to Get Started

To get started in the Accounting program, complete the admissions process at any of the seven DCCCD colleges. When you meet with an academic advisor, mention your interest in the Accounting program so he or she can help you determine which courses you should take.

If you are planning to earn an associate degree or certificate, please note that you must complete 25 percent of your degree requirements at the college awarding the degree.

Tuition

Dallas County residents pay $135 per three-hour class — that’s $45 per credit hour, or less than $550 for a full semester load of 12 credit hours.

Compare that to what you’d pay elsewhere! See DCCCD tuition rates for tuition according to your place of residency.

Rising Star Program

If you are a Dallas County high school graduating senior, you may qualify for Rising Star funds to help pay for this program. The Rising Star program offers academic support services and up to $4,000 for tuition and books, if you have established financial need.

Why Study Accounting?

Every day you make decisions that involve choosing between alternatives that will produce different outcomes. These decisions may relate to your business or personal life and range from small to large — from deciding where to eat to selecting a new house or car, maintaining your personal relationships and ultimately determining the course of your life.

You can improve your decision-making capabilities and rational thought processes by learning the principles that govern accounting. At its most basic level, accounting provides a structure to compare data and information, showing what can be accomplished at what price. Even taking a few accounting courses can help improve your ability to make rational decisions and manage your own finances.

At its most complex, accounting governs almost every aspect of business — and in the wake of now-common corporate scandals, the need is greater than ever for highly trained personnel who can use competent and ethical business practices to maintain public confidence and trust.

Accounting Program Goals

  • Provide two transfer accounting courses, ACCT 2301/2401 and ACCT 2302/2402, required by most business transfer programs.
  • Offer a comprehensive awards program that includes an associate degree and certificates

We offer several other Business Management and Administration programs that might interest you, including Management, Marketing, Business Administration and International Business and Trade.

Transferring From DCCCD

The accounting program is designed for entry into the workforce. However, if you are interested in earning a degree at a four-year institution, please visit the Transfer Services website for guidance on the transfer process. The Principles of Accounting I and II classes are transferrable to Texas four-year public institutions.

Accreditation

All seven DCCCD colleges are individually accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Why is accreditation important? Being accredited means that a college has met certain standards of quality set by an independent accrediting agency. Attending an accredited institution is the best way to ensure your degree (and all the hard work that went into it) will be recognized by other colleges and universities when you transfer and by future employers. Federal financial aid is only available to students of accredited colleges and universities.
