BOSS Degree and Certificate Options

BOSS courses are sometimes still listed at the individual colleges under their former name of Office Technology. A.A.S. degree and certificate options are offered at all of the DCCCD colleges that offer BOSS programs:

Degree and certificate options are:

  • BOSS - Executive Assistant Associate in Applied Sciences Degree, a four-semester comprehensive curriculum of 61-64 credit hours designed as an advanced level program to prepare students for executive assistant and computer support positions in an office environment. Topics include office management, human relations, records management, oral and written business communications, plus word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation and telecommunication applications.
  • Administrative Support Certificate, a three-semester curriculum of 41-47 credit hours preparing students for a successful career as an office professional and developed to the specifications of the local job market.
  • Office Assistant Certificate, a one-semester curriculum of 15-16 credit hours that prepares students for entry-level positions requiring basic office skills.
  • Software Application Specialist Certificate, a one-semester curriculum of 16 credit hours that provides a benchmark for students to measure their computer skills using Microsoft Office software. Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) and Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS) Certifications, which provide students valuable credentials and a competitive edge, is available for those who master required competencies. Students who previously passed specific Microsoft Office Specialist or Microsoft Certified Application Specialist certification exams will be eligible to receive credit for equivalent POFI courses.

In addition, El Centro College offers the:

  • Virtual Assistant Skills Achievement Award, a one-semester curriculum of 12 credit hours that addresses managing a virtual business. Topics include administrative, creative, managerial, technical, business office and personal support services in a virtual affiliation as well as building relationships and partnerships in the global industry. The award also includes establishing a personal business plan for handling the marketing, organizing, operating, and financing of a virtual business. Courses in this award will assist students in preparing and obtaining certification in a Master Virtual Assistant (MVA) or Professional Virtual Assistant (PVA) from a credentialed virtual assistance association.
