Retired Scientist and Engineer,
Contract Trainer
Texas Instruments Inc.

“I was in the semiconductor business for 25 years, the last 14 working as a materials scientist and engineer at TI. Ten years ago, when I left my full-time job, I started doing contract work teaching employees and new trainees at TI.

“I took the Introduction to Nanotechnology class because people in my microelectronics class started asking me what nanotechnology is, and I didn’t know what to tell them.

“What’s interesting to me about this field is that you can build things out of individual atoms. There are so many applications — such as in medicine, delivering tiny amounts of therapeutic treatment to targeted sites. That’s something that can actually be done; it’s not just science fiction.

“I’m really learning about nanotechnology as a personal interest, but also so I can relay some of its applications to the TI employees in my classes.”
