Ted Pohrte Scholarship for Distance Learning Students

A scholarship was established in memory of Ted Pohrte for distance learning students.

Amount of Award

$225 per semester, maximum of $450 per year, or two courses at in-county tuition cost

Number of Awards Per Year

Varies according to available funds

Scholarship Eligibility

The Ted Pohrte Scholarship is available to students who:

  • Are seeking a degree and are enrolled in at least six hours of distance learning classes in a fall or spring semester
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Have no outstanding debt with any college of DCCCD
  • Are a distance learning student of any college of DCCCD

Application Process

Applicants must submit the following:

  1. The complete application (PDF - 665KB) for the Ted Pohrte Scholarship
  2. A 250-word essay on “What Distance Learning Means to Me” 
  3. A transcript of previous high school and college work. An unofficial transcript may be accepted with the application form, but an official transcript is required within 30 days of application.

Selection Process and Scholarship Requirements

Recipients are selected by the DCCCD Foundation at the end of each spring and fall semester to begin the following full-length semester. Awardees must maintain a 2.5 GPA during the semester to maintain the scholarship.

Application Deadline

  • Nov. 30 for each spring semester; awardees receive funds in January 
  • June 30 for each fall semester; awardees receive funds in August
