ESL Teaching Academy

Looking for practical, hands-on training in ESL? Whether you are a volunteer, an experienced instructor or new to English as a Second Language (ESL), our quick, affordable training will provide you with the tools you need to teach more confidently and effectively.

ESL Teaching Academy courses are delivered by top area professionals in a format that's easy to understand. Getting involved in the academy can be your first important step in joining the local, national and international network of ESL professionals. Learn methods and techniques that really work, while enhancing your ESL presentation skills and knowledge.

For teachers who are already certified to teach in Texas and are interested in being certified to teach ESL, our courses can be a helpful resource in preparing for the ExCET exam. ESL Teaching Academy courses are approved as Continuing Professional Education hours toward Standard Certificate renewal, and you can build a transcript with a record of earned CEUs, which are recognized across the United States. In addition, DCCCD now grants the ESL Instructor Skills Award to students who take all of the core courses, the practicum and two electives.

Prerequisites to enroll: Previous ESL teaching experience is not required. As minimum requirements for participating in the program, you must hold a high school diploma, GED or equivalent, and have advanced-level English language proficiency.

ESL Teaching Academy courses are offered at Eastfield College.
