(DALLAS) — Two members of the Dallas County Community College District Board of Trustees, Kitty Boyle and Diana Flores, were sworn in during the board’s regular monthly meeting in June. Boyle, who represents District 5, and Flores, who represents District 6, were unopposed in the May 10, 2008, election. During the June board meeting, Jerry Prater (District 3) was re-elected chair of the board and Flores was chosen as vice chair.

Boyle, whose son Jonathan administered the oath of office, began her service as a trustee in 1996. She served as chair of the board from May 2000 to June 2003; is a member of the DCCCD audit committee; and is immediate past chair and current executive committee member of the board of directors for the Association of Community College Trustees, which is based in Washington, D.C. She is an administrator in the law firm of Boyle and Lowry, LLP. Her new term expires in 2014.

Flores was sworn in by Maria Miller, legal assistant in the DCCCD general counsel’s office.  In addition to her service as the board’s new vice chair, Flores also has served as chair of the board’s planning and budget committee. She is project director for the Small Business Transportation Resource Center-Gulf Region for the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Her new term expires in 2014.

(DALLAS) — Dr. Allatia Harris, district director of academic curriculum initiatives for the Dallas County Community College District, was named the new president of the San Jacinto College North campus, effective July 14, by the SJC board of trustees on June 2.

Harris has served in a number of positions for DCCCD during her tenure: as interim vice president of instruction at Eastfield College; district director for faculty development and core curriculum evaluation; and executive dean of arts and sciences, dean of communications and faculty member at Mountain View College. She also has taught at the University of Southern California and the University of North Texas.

“We congratulate Dr. Allatia Harris on her appointment as president of San Jacinto College North, and we will miss her,” said Dr. Wright Lassiter Jr., DCCCD’s chancellor. “Dr. Harris has helped so many DCCCD faculty members and students through her work, and we know that she will touch the lives of many people at SJCN.”
