DCCCD Colleges Set Commencement Ceremonies in May

For immediate release — May 5, 2008

(DALLAS) — Hundreds of Dallas County Community College District students are crossing the stage during commencement ceremonies that began May 2 and conclude this week. Graduates from DCCCD's seven individually accredited colleges will hear a variety of keynote speakers and receive greetings delivered by members of the district’s board of trustees. The schedule is listed below by college, in date order.

Richland College 
Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3, 2008, outdoors on campus, at 7:30 p.m. both nights. The commencement address for both ceremonies was delivered by RLC faculty member Trudi Swedlund, professor of English and speech. 
  
North Lake College
Saturday, May 3, 2008, at the Alfred J. Loos Field House in Addison, 10 a.m. The commencement speaker was Dr. Francis Osentowski, NLC’s 2007-2008 President’s Scholar.

El Centro College
Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Southern Methodist University’s Moody Coliseum, 3 p.m. Edward DesPlas, DCCCD vice chancellor for business affairs, delivered the commencement address. 

Brookhaven College
Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the Alfred J. Loos Field House in Addison (3518 Spring Valley Road), 7 p.m. The commencement speaker will be Dr. Nita Drescher, professor of developmental reading and BHC’s Minnie Stevens Piper Professor nominee.

Cedar Valley College
Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Lancaster High School in the coliseum, 7 p.m. David Small, one of CVC’s eight Outstanding Alumni who were honored during the college’s Jazz at the Meyerson event earlier this year, will be the keynote speaker. 
 
Eastfield College
Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the Mesquite Convention Center and Exhibit Hall, 7:30 p.m. (A pre-gathering with light refreshments begins at 6:45 p.m. in the Hampton Inn and Suites lobby.) The commencement address will be delivered by Dr. Wright Lassiter, DCCCD chancellor.
 
Mountain View College
Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the Jesse Owens Memorial Center, 9191 S. Polk St. in Dallas, 7 p.m. State Sen. Royce West will be the commencement speaker.
