DCCCD Receives Federal Grants

For immediate release — June 10, 2008

(DALLAS) — The Dallas County Community College District has received federal grants that support manufacturing and logistics, and small businesses. Grant details are provided below.

  • The U.S. Department of Labor, using a subrecipient agreement with the University of Texas at Arlington, has awarded DCCCD and North Lake College a grant in the amount of $205,555 to support the Advanced Manufacturing and Logistics Project. The grant provides funds to train 75 workers to become certified production technicians (CPTs), as well as job training for 125 workers to become either a certified logistics associate or a certified logistics technician (CLA/CLT). Training in these areas will be provided by North Lake and Cedar Valley colleges. The funding period began in October 2007 and ends June 30, 2010. Under this grant, North Lake will receive $102,778 and Cedar Valley will receive $102,777.

  • The U.S. Small Business Administration has awarded a $1,960,395 grant to DCCCD, the El Centro College Bill J. Priest Campus and North Texas Small Business Development Centers. The grant will provide guidance and support for business and economic development assistance, information, referrals, contacts and training to small businesses in order to promote small business start-ups and overall business success and growth across north Texas.

    The award includes subcontract agreements with these centers: North Texas SBDC Lead Center; International Business Center; Technology Assistance Center; Best Southwest Center for Government Contracting; Dallas Center; Risk Management; Collin County College; UTA Enterprise Excellence; Grayson County College; Kilgore College; McLennan Community College/Copperas Cove; Navarro College; North Central Texas College (Denton); Northeast Texas Community College (Texarkana); Paris Junior College; Tarrant County College District; Trinity Valley College; and Tyler Junior College.

    The funding period began in October 2007 and ends on Sept. 30, 2008.
