| DCCCD Event Helps Students Prepare for College - Oct. 25, 2008 Las Llaves del Exito, a free one-day program offered by the Dallas County Community College District, can give students the keys to their success: a college education and information about how to navigate the system so that they can attend a college or university. The fall 2008 Las Llaves event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 8 a.m. to noon at Mountain View College. |
| DCCCD Earns ‘AAA’ Rating from Financial Institutions - Sept. 12, 2008 Three respected financial entities — Fitch Ratings, Moody’s Investors Service and Standard & Poors Ratings Services — have once again assigned “AAA” ratings to the Dallas County Community College District for $220 million in general obligation bonds, series 2008, and affirmed the same “AAA” rating on approximately $30 million in maintenance tax notes and $63 million in outstanding general obligation bonds. |
| DCCCD Trustees Receive Grant; Three DCCCD Colleges Net Awards - July 8, 2008 The Dallas County Community College District’s Board of Trustees has received a grant from the Association of Community College Trustees that will fund a project that provides a model curriculum for community college trustees. In addition, several DCCCD colleges have received state and private grants that provide funds for job skills, sustainability, a summer program and programs for older adults. |
| DCCCD Co-Sponsors Job Fair for High School Students With Disabilities - Feb. 9, 2008 The Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, the Dallas County Community College District, the Dallas Independent School District and Dallas Metrocare Services will sponsor a "Transitional Services and Job Fair" for high school students with disabilities (ages 16 to 22) on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. |

| DCCCD Trustees Sworn In; Harris Named SJCN President - June 16, 2008 Two members of the Dallas County Community College District Board of Trustees, Kitty Boyle and Diana Flores, were sworn in during the board’s regular monthly meeting in June. Also: Dr. Allatia Harris, district director of academic curriculum initiatives for the Dallas County Community College District, was named the new president of the San Jacinto College North campus, effective July 14, by the SJC board of trustees on June 2. |
| DCCCD Trustees Honored for Efforts in Equity, Diversity - Nov. 11, 2008 For the second consecutive year, members of the Dallas County Community College District’s board of trustees have been honored for their collective efforts to promote and support diversity. The Association of Community College Trustees has named the DCCCD board of trustees as recipient of the 2008 Charles Kennedy Equity Award. |
| DCCCD Students With Talent in Music, Art, Writing Honored - April 22, 2008 Each year, the Cecil Wallace Fordham Award in Visual Arts, the Alice Jones Berding Award in Music and the Eleanor Jones Award in Creative Writing are given to students through DCCCD’s seven colleges who excel in art, music and creative writing. Fifteen students have been recognized for their talent and skills by the DCCCD Foundation with cash awards for 2008. |
| Free DCCCD Program Presents 'Chicanas in Charge' - March 3, 2008 In honor of Women’s History Month, the Eastfield College business and fine arts division will sponsor a panel discussion with women from across the Dallas area who are featured in the book “Chicanas In Charge: Texas Women in the Public Arena.” The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Monday, March 3, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. in room 100 of the EFC Science Building. |

| African-American Mentors Pass It Forward - Oct. 19-24, 2008 A group of African-American college presidents and chancellors are passing forward their knowledge to a new generation of leaders through the Thomas Lakin Institute for Mentored Leadership. The Dallas County Community College District will host the Lakin Institute class of 2008 — composed of 12 mentees from community colleges across the country — at a meeting in Dallas Oct. 19-24, 2008. |
