DCCCD, BKM Partner in Scholarship Effort, Seminar

For immediate release - May 17, 2007

(DALLAS) — Dr. Wright Lassiter, chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District, will deliver opening remarks during a special higher education seminar presented by BKM Total Office of Texas — a Dallas-based office furnishings company —  on Thursday, June 28, at BKM’s corporate offices, located at 9755 Clifford Drive, Suite 100, in Dallas. During the seminar, BKM also will announce the 2007 recipient of a scholarship they established last year to honor the DCCCD chancellor: the Dr. Wright Lassiter Jr. BKM Scholarship, which is administered by the DCCCD Foundation.

Lassiter will present the $2,500 scholarship to a deserving DCCCD student during the conference at 9:30 a.m. The seminar will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. BKM’s one-day program targets facilities managers, university deans, architects, designers, information technology professionals and human resources managers.

Interested DCCCD students who would like to apply for the scholarship:

  • Must have completed at least one semester at a DCCCD college and have earned a minimum grade point average of 2.5 or better;
  • Must enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours;
  • Must be majoring in entrepreneurship studies, art, interior design, computer-aided design, education, leadership studies, mid-management careers, science, mathematics or technology, and they may apply to any college in the district;
  • Must complete the DCCCD Foundation Scholarship Application form, which must include a one-page essay about the student’s long- and short-term goals, plus one letter of recommendation from a DCCCD faculty member, high school counselor or college academic advisor.

Preference will be given to students who do not qualify for PELL grants but who have financial need.

DCCCD, the largest undergraduate institution of higher education in Texas, serves more than 64,000 credit and 25,000 continuing education students each semester. The district includes seven individually accredited colleges — Brookhaven, Cedar Valley, Eastfield, El Centro, Mountain View, North Lake and Richland — plus the Dallas TeleCollege and several additional locations.
