2006 Recipients of Music, Visual Arts and Creative Writing Awards

Alice Berding Jones Awards in Music recipients:

  • Eric Camarillo, Brookhaven College – Farmers Branch resident; majoring in music education and performance; plans to transfer to a four-year university to complete his music degree and become a music teacher or professor; will perform on tenor trombone: “Concertino for Trombone and String Orchestra Op. 45 No. 7” by Lars-Erik Larsson.
  • Cassandra Beard, Cedar Valley College – Resident of Cedar Hill and originally from Louisiana; pursuing an associate degree in performing arts; plans to continue studies at a four-year institution and ultimately to become a professional opera singer; currently performs voice as a soprano; will sing “Vergebliches Ständchen” by Brahms and “Deh vieni, non tardar” from Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart.
  • Bernadette Buentipo, Eastfield College – Dallas resident; pianist; plans to pursue bachelor’s and master’s degrees in piano performance; played with the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra at the age of 12; will perform on the piano “Impromptu No. 2, Op. 31” by Fauré.
  • Shena Craine, El Centro College – Resident of Dallas and native of Missouri; began vocal training at Booker T. Washington High School for the Visual and Performing Arts; plans to attend a university to receive a bachelor’s degree in music; will perform “Voce di donna from La Gioconda” by Ponchiell and “At The River” by Lowry, arranged by Charles Ives.
  • Anna Hinda, Mountain View College – Dallas resident and native of Namibia; majoring in music studies; plans to earn a bachelor’s degree and teach music to children in third world countries; will sing “Porgi amor” by Mozart and “Climb Every Mountain” by Rodgers and Hammerstein.
  • Elizabeth Windsor, North Lake College – Irving resident and Missouri native; current studies in music literature and vocal performance at North Lake College; plans to become a music teacher on the K-12 level; will sing “Venez Agreable printemps” by Anonymous, “Wie Melodien zieht es mir” by Brahms and “Dreaming” by Laitman.
  • Chi Hue Lee, Richland College – Dallas resident and native of Korea; studying English and music at Richland College; performed a solo with the Pohang City Symphony Orchestra in Korea; plans to teach violin and continue performing; will perform on the violin “Violin Concerto No. 1 Op. 26, I. Allegro Moderato” by Bruch.

Cecil Wallace Fordham Awards in Visual Arts recipients:

  • Arthur G. Fields, Brookhaven College – Dallas resident; current studies in graphic design and photography at Brookhaven College; will transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree and eventually a Master of Fine Arts degree; plans to teach at the college level and continue doing freelance photography; exhibit pieces include digital prints: “Wait and See” and “Modern #2.”
  • Larissa Titus, Cedar Valley College – Waxahachie resident; pursuing an associate degree in art; plans to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree; exhibit pieces are: “Hyde Park,” mixed media; “Not Ducks 2,” monoprint; and “Blue Self,” mixed media.
  • Micheal “Mickey” Bruce, Eastfield College – Forney resident and Georgia native; current studies in fine arts at Eastfield College; plans to transfer to a four-year institution and major in fine arts; exhibit pieces include: “Cosmosis 1,” “Cosmosis 2” and “Cosmosis 5,” all in ceramics.
  • Joel Bueno Jr., El Centro College – Resident and native of Dallas; current studies in arts; plans to earn a bachelor’s in arts and technology; exhibit pieces included: “Deathray 05,” an archival print on butcher paper; “Unknown,” in mixed media; and “Unknown,” in computer projection.
  • Lucas Martell, Mountain View College – Resident and native of Dallas; current studies in visual arts at Mountain View College; plans to pursue visual arts degrees at the bachelor’s and master’s levels and teach; exhibit pieces, all mixed media, are titled “Ebb and Flow,” “Supper” and “Untitled.”
  • Sandra Legere, North Lake College – Irving resident and native of Nicaragua; current studies in design; career plans are to become an art instructor or gallery director; exhibit pieces include “Visions” in cattle marker on canvas, “Happy Days” in cattle marker on paper, and “Arco Iris” in cattle marker on canvas.
  • Patty Rooney, Richland College – Dallas resident and Missouri native; current studies in painting and multimedia; plans to exhibit and sell her work; exhibit pieces include “Café Rusko,” “Window Series #4” and “Truman,” all in encaustic.

Eleanor Jones Award in Creative Writing recipient:

  • William Payne, Brookhaven College – Dallas resident; currently pursuing studies in creative writing at Brookhaven College; plans to earn a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing; career plans include working as a writer of poetry, short stories and novels or teaching; his recited works will include “Cast Away” and “The People in Mamma’s Life.”
