(DALLAS) – Dr. Jesus “Jess” Carreon, chancellor of the Dallas County Community Colleges, has announced the appointment of Dr. Andrew Jones as the system’s new vice chancellor for educational affairs. Members of the DCCCD board of trustees approved the appointment during the group’s regular monthly meeting in July. Jones, who will begin work on Aug. 15 for DCCC, has served as president of the Community College of Baltimore – Catonsville since 1999. 

“I am excited to welcome Dr. Jones back to the Dallas County Community Colleges,” said Carreon. “I believe he brings a balanced background in instruction and student services, which will continue to strengthen our delivery of quality educational experiences to the students of Dallas County.”

“I am delighted to return to Texas, the Dallas County Community Colleges and my many friends and colleagues in the system,” said Jones.

The new vice chancellor previously served as executive vice president for academic and student affairs at Cedar Valley College, one of seven individually accredited institutions in DCCC; the system educates more than 63,000 credit and 27,000 noncredit students each semester. Jones also has served as provost and professor of education at Sojourner-Douglass College in Baltimore; as executive assistant to the president and associate professor at Talladega (Ala.) College; and as assistant professor of continuing and adult education, assistant dean of students and sports information director at Coppin State University, also located in Baltimore.

Jones earned his doctorate in higher education administration, public policy and adult education from Temple University and his master’s degree in library science from the University of Maryland. He conducted undergraduate studies in economics at UM and earned a management development certificate from Harvard University. 

A presenter and panelist at numerous state and national conferences, Jones’ professional service commitments include: the Governor’s Commission on Quality Education; the American Council on Education’s lifelong learning commission; The College Board’s advisory commission; the American Association of Community Colleges’ global education commission; and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools’ western commission of the states.

His honors and awards include listings with: Distinguished Black Marylanders; the International Directory of Distinguished Leaders; Who’s Who in America; Men of Achievement; Outstanding Young Men of America; Community Leaders and Noteworthy Americans. He also participated in the League for Innovation in the Community College’s executive leadership program.
