(Dallas) - Dr. Jesus "Jess" Carreon, chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District, has announced the appointment of Felix A. Zamora as the new president of Mountain View College, effective July 1. Members of the DCCCD board of trustees approved the appointment today during the group's regular monthly meeting. Zamora, currently vice president of student and institutional development at Eastfield College (one of DCCCD's seven individually accredited colleges), will succeed Dr. Monique Amerman, who announced her retirement earlier this year.
"I want to thank everyone at Mountain View College for taking time to work through the process of selecting a new president," said Carreon. "Attendance at the forums, plus feedback from the campus, signified the interest and anticipation of the college community as we moved forward to finalize this process." He added, "This is an exciting and busy time for all of us. With the passage of the general obligation bond program, we will expand our capacity to meet student and community needs throughout the district. We are beginning a new chapter in the history of Mountain View College."
"I am pleased and excited to accept this appointment and to carry forward Mountain View's tradition of excellence and service to the community," said Zamora. "I look forward to working with faculty, staff and students as we prepare for growth, change and expansion under DCCCD's new bond program passed by voters this month."
Zamora, who has served DCCCD in various capacities since 1986, also has filled administrative roles at Alamo Community College District in San Antonio and previously has taught in the business division at Eastfield College. He earned his bachelor's degree in international studies from the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vt.; his master's degree in public administration from Southern Methodist University; and is pursuing a doctorate in urban and public policy from the University of Texas at Arlington, which he expects to complete in 2005.
Zamora has been honored twice with a Kellogg Foundation Fellowship and once with a Ford Foundation Fellowship. He has been a visiting scholar for the U.S. Information Agency in Latin America. In 1994, he was honored by the School for International Training with a Distinguished Alumnus Award for Public Service. Most recently, Zamora was named a Fellow by the Mexican American Solidarity Foundation. He also has experience in resource development and fundraising.
