Fourth Annual Sustainable Dallas Conference

March 7, 2002

(DALLAS) — In today's economy, most businesses are concerned with the bottom line. But does focus on the bottom line mean that businesses cannot implement sustainable (long term) economic, environmental and social practices without compromising profits? Absolutely not. Many profitable, trend-setting businesses have discovered that practicing sustainability in fact increases their bottom line as well as gives them a competitive edge in the market place. In addition, today's consumers are demanding that the companies they do business with be accountable not only to shareholders, but to the community as well.

Those who want to learn about practical applications of sustainable business practices should plan to attend the 4th Annual Sustainable Dallas Conference on May 10-11 at Richland College, 12800 Abrams Road, Dallas, Texas.

Janine Benyus, author of Biomimicry, is the keynote speaker. Other presenters include Martha Marks, Republicans for Environmental Protection; Doug LaFollette, Secretary of State of Wisconsin; Sarah James, American Planning Association; and Ross Gelbspan, author of The Heat is On.

In addition to the plenary sessions mentioned above, there will be five break-out sessions:

  • Sustainable Business/Economy
  • Sustainable Architecture/Building
  • Sustainable Horticulture/Agriculture
  • Personal Sustainability
  • Teaching Sustainability (for K-12 teachers)
  • Attendees will receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from Richland College's Corporate Training Division. Registration fees are listed on the next page.

The first 200 registrants will receive a free copy of a Texas SmartScape CD-ROM, which has been graciously donated by the City of Dallas Public Works and Transportation Department.

For more information, call Richland College's Continuing Education division at 972.238.6144 or visit the website at www.sustainabledallas.org.
