(DALLAS) — Bricks and clicks in higher education – or the partnership between institutions like the Dallas County Community College District (most often bricks and mortar) and the University of Phoenix (known best for its online degree programs…just click) – give students more options to pursue degrees that will fulfill their professional and financial needs. DCCCD and the University of Phoenix have created another path for students to follow by taking their associate’s degree from any one of the colleges within the district and then transferring those credit hours as a block to earn a bachelor’s degree from UOP.
Both institutions recently signed an agreement cementing that academic partnership during a brief ceremony at the district’s downtown office. DCCCD Chancellor William Wenrich co-signed the agreement with Scott Huger, campus director for UOP’s new bricks-and-mortar location at 12400 Coit Rd. in the Churchill Tower.
“This agreement is designed specifically to allow for maximum transfer of credit and a seamless transition for DCCCD students who have earned an associate’s degree to the University of Phoenix,” said Dr. Robert Aguero, DCCCD vice chancellor for educational affairs. “We are pleased to cultivate this relationship and know that our students will benefit as they seek a bachelor’s degree. The bachelor’s degree in management, in particular, will enable our students to learn how to manage people, budgets and planning in areas that interest them and will provide opportunities for career advancement.”
Specifically, the agreement includes the following major points:
- All associate’s degrees awarded by DCCCD will transfer to UOP as a block of credit, which means that all associate’s degree-related courses that a student passes will transfer automatically.
- A maximum of 72 of these transfer credits will be applied to the Bachelor of Science in Management degree. A maximum of 69 transfer credits will apply to all other bachelor’s degree programs. (At the Dallas/Fort Worth UOP campus, those bachelor’s degree programs include business/administration, business/e-business and business/management.)
- DCCCD students will be admitted to UOP’s bachelor’s degree in management program when they have received their associate’s degree and have satisfied other requirements for admission to UOP as stated in their catalog.
- When students complete their bachelor’s degree in management from UOP, the focus of their associate’s degree from DCCCD will be listed as an area of emphasis on their undergraduate transcript and diploma.
- In addition, full-time employees of DCCCD are eligible to receive a 15 percent tuition discount for programs offered by UOP for the BSM degree.
- UOP, which annually will review its agreement with DCCCD, offers similar partnerships with other associate’s degree-granting institutions that are accredited by or have earned candidacy status from regional or national accrediting bodies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. DCCCD’s agreement is the first of its kind with UOP in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

DCCCD, the largest community college district in Texas, serves approximately 50,000 credit students who attend classes at one of its seven campuses throughout the county. Students enroll in traditional classroom courses as well as online instruction; distance and internet-based education are offered, too.
“DCCCD’s relationship with the University of Phoenix will enable us to offer more options to our students,” said Wenrich. “We are here to serve our students.”
The University of Phoenix offers doctoral, graduate and undergraduate degree programs, as well as certificate programs to working professionals around the world. UOP is one of the nation’s largest private accredited institutions for business management, based on its online degree programs, plus its 85 campuses and learning centers located throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and Vancouver British Columbia.
