(DALLAS) – Members of the Dallas County Community College District Board of Trustees have selected Jeff Binford as DCCCD’s newest trustee, effective December 2001. Binford, president of the Binford Hospitality Group Inc., replaces District 2 trustee Carla McGee, who is resigning, citing family health reasons. District 2 comprises residents from the Carrollton/Farmers Branch area, in which Broookhaven College is located.

Kitty Boyle, chair of the DCCCD Board of Trustees, said, "On behalf of our trustees, I welcome Mr. Binford to the board. His past commitment to community service and the relationship he has established with other community leaders in Farmers Branch, in addition to his professional expertise, will be an asset to his service on our board. We are excited and pleased to have him join us, and I also wish to thank Carla McGee for her many years of service to DCCCD and District 2."

Binford, former City Council member and mayor pro-tem – and current chairman of the Metrocrest Hospital Authority – for the city of Farmers Branch, will fill McGee’s unexpired term until May 2002, when he will seek election for that position. He was sworn in during the board’s monthly meeting on December 4.

The new DCCCD trustee previously served as president of Hospitality Connections Inc.; as vice president of MHM Inc.; as manager at Pannell Kerr Forster Management Advisory Services; as a well as a variety of managerial positions in the hotel industry in Texas, Oklahoma and Illinois. Binford also has served as a guest lecturer in the hospitality industry, for hotel organizations and at seminars. He has spoken at the University of North Texas, addressing graduate-level students about hotel development, and he also has shared his expertise with students attending Oklahoma State University about career opportunities in the hotel industry.

Binford has been actively involved in several civic and municipal organizations, where he has served: as a member of the appraisal review board for the Dallas Central Appraisal District; as former chairman of the Dallas/Fort Worth Regional Film Commission; and as a member of the board of directors for the Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce.

Binford earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston’s Conrad Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management. He also has enrolled in commercial and investment real estate courses at DCCCD. He is married to Pam, his wife of 23 years; they have two children: Will, age 19; and Katie, age 15.

The Dallas County Community College District is a comprehensive two-year system with seven campuses: Brookhaven, Cedar Valley, Eastfield, El Centro, Mountain View, North Lake and Richland colleges. The district also operates the Bill J. Priest Institute for Economic Development, a job training and business services center, and the R. Jan LeCroy Center for Educational Telecommunications, which provides distance learning products and services to educational institutions, business and industry, and individuals worldwide. The DCCCD board of trustees represents seven districts in Dallas County.

Residents in all DCCCD districts are welcomed to attend any of the seven colleges in Dallas County.
