Universities Center at Dallas (UCD)

1998

Universities Center at Dallas (UCD)

Established in 1994 under the name Dallas Education Center, UCD is located at 1901 Main Street, which is diagonally across the street from the Dallas Police Headquarters. Five area universities and a community college district will offer evening and Saturday classes: Texas A&M University-Commerce; Texas Woman's University; University of North Texas; University of Texas at Arlington; University of Texas at Dallas and Dallas County Community College District (El Centro College, Richland College and Bill Priest Institute).

Currently, degrees offered at UCD include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice
  • Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Legal Information Management
  • Master of Business Administration

Proposed future degrees include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Fall 1998)
  • Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with Teacher Certification (Spring 1999).

Other courses offered at UCD include: teacher certification, language, business, education and workforce development programs.

Says Ed Pauley, UCD Executive Director, "UCD is accessible and affordable. It's located in the heart of downtown Dallas, with plenty of covered and surface parking nearby. However, students may prefer to use the light rail or buses, which are also located close to UCD. The Dallas Police Department has a presence in our building and we are across the street from the Dallas Police Headquarters."

Pauley continues, "But perhaps most importantly, all our institutions offer state tuition rates. Since many Dallas companies offer tuition reimbursement programs, students should check with their Human Resources Department to see what programs are available. Everyone who wants a higher education should be able to get one. That's why UCD is here - to offer convenient, affordable, high quality education in downtown Dallas."
