Brookhaven College Handbell Ensemble“Festival of Bells” - March 19 and April 9, 2005
An annual festival coordinated by the Greater Dallas Handbell Association, “Festival of Bells” gathers choirs from around the region for two full days of ringing, March 19 and April 9.  Festival are designed for both intermediate and advanced handbell choirs and culminate in a mass ringing concert each day at 3:30 p.m.

A two-time GRAMMY-winner for best jazz vocalist, Diane Schuur has been given the title “new first lady of jazz,” by reviewers from around the world. Schuur has twice played the White House, and her recordings have topped the charts for years.  Schuur will be in concert at Brookhaven College Jan. 22, 2005.

Brookhaven College’s newest program is for its smallest students yet. Beginning in February, the college will offer Musikgarten courses for children ages newborn to 5 years old as part of the School of the Arts – Arts Academy.

Moisés Kaufman and members of New York’s Tectonic Theater Project created "The Laramie Project" as a dramatized documentary to explore reactions to the 1998 murder of gay univeristy student Matthew Shepard. Brookhaven College administration urges theater goers to be aware that "The Laramie Project" contains strong language and adult subject matter, which may be offensive to and unsuitable for some audience members.

Local Volleyball Team Wins Second National Title - Nov. 16, 2005
For the second year in a row, the Brookhaven College Lady Bears volleyball team won the National Junior College Athletic Association, NJCAA, Division III national title. Brookhaven College defeated Ridgewater College, Minn., 30-25, 30-28, 28-30 and 30-25 in the championship match Nov. 12.
GIS Day 2005 - Nov. 18, 2005
Identified by the U.S. Department of Labor as one of the top three emerging technology fields, the interest in geospatial technology is growing every year. For the third year, the Ellison Miles Geotechnology Institute is offering informal exhibits and geographic information systems demonstrations Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in recognition of worldwide GIS Day.
Journalism Students Win State Awards - Nov. 16, 2005
Students in the journalism program at Brookhaven College received awards in 11 categories from the Texas Community College Journalism Association for their exceptional work. The student newspaper, the Brookhaven Courier, has existed since the college opened, and the program won its first awards in 1980. Since that time, the student journalists have won awards at the state and national level.
Microsoft Certification Testing Site at Brookhaven College - Nov. 16, 2005

Microsoft courses have been part of the curriculum in the Office Technology Department at Brookhaven College for several years, but the college has just become an official Microsoft Office Specialist, MOS, testing site for Microsoft Office 2003 software. The Microsoft Office Specialist is the official Microsoft certification for Microsoft Office programs.

National accreditation of Brookhaven College’s Nursing Program is the recommendation according to announcements made Oct. 20 by members of the site visiting team from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc., during their exit briefing conducted in the college’s Nursing Skills Lab.

The Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce and Brookhaven College's Corporate and Continuing Education Division present "Emotional Intelligence and Its Impact: In Hiring, Retention, Regulation, and Performance in the Healthcare Industry," a free seminar about hiring people who have the qualities to serve others with compassion and skill.

National Community College Hispanic Council Leadership Symposium - Sept. 22-24, 2005

Hispanic leaders in community college education will gather in Dallas for their 10th annual national leadership symposium, titled "Leaders Who Bridge Access to Success." The Dallas County Community College system is the host college; Dr. Jesus “Jess” Carreon, chancellor for the DCCC system, is the opening speaker; and Brookhaven College is a sponsor for the event.

The semi-annual Career Fair at Brookhaven College provides opportunities for students and community members to speak directly to more than 60 employers who are seeking to fill both full- and part-time positions.
Recital Series - Sept. 6, 2005
Featuring local area performers, the recital series at Brookhaven College returns for the fall semester. The weekly recital series offers opportunities for students and the public to enjoy free performances by professional musicians at small concerts on the Brookhaven College main campus.

More than 20 different companies will be looking for job applicants at the Bilingual Job Fair at the Brookhaven College East Center 1, which will be held July 27, 2005. This is the first career fair at the college to combine the resources of the Career Development Center with the East Center’s specialization in instruction for English for Speakers of Other Languages.

Students and teachers from seven area high schools were presented with Pyramid Awards on March 28 at the annual Evening of Excellence at Brookhaven College.
Top Tech Degree Added - July 28, 2005
New degree and training opportunities at Brookhaven College provide students the potential to find a challenging job that pays well working in one of the top emerging fields - geographic information systems. Beginning January 2006, the Geospatial Technology Program will include both credit and noncredit courses for newcomers to the field and experienced professionals needing to learn new software skills.

The Dancers' Theatre of Brookhaven College School of the Arts will entertain audiences in the college's International Courtyard with performances featuring students and special guests.
Top-notch Child-care - July 26, 2005
The Parent/Child Study Center at Brookhaven College received its accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The center has been accredited since 1990, and now has accreditation through May 31, 2010. NAEYC accreditation holds centers to national standards of quality more rigorous than state licensing requirements in areas of teacher education, health and safety, child-to-teacher ratios and program curriculum.
