Eastfield College, Fine Arts (F) Building Continues Through Saturday, June 28
Eastfield College will host the Eastfield Metroplex East Piano Festival June 23–28.
Piano Camps and Workshops
Pierrette Mouledous, director of the Piano Department, has assembled an impressive faculty of educators with specialty in piano performance to teach the week-long camps. Instructors will focus on elements of stylistic interpretation and technique from classical, jazz and liturgical piano repertoire for students age 7 and up; tuition starts at $75. (Audition on June 18 or 23 from 2–4 p.m. is required for intermediate and advanced workshops that will take place June 25-28.) Rick Andrews Performs Saturday, June 28 A highlight of the festival is the guest performance of Rick Andrews. Andrews has achieved national recognition as a performer of solo and concerto repertoire and continues to perform throughout the United States. He has received high honors at major competitions and festivals including the Greater Southwest Music Festival, the Mountain View Concerto Competition, the Dallas Civic Symphony Concerto Competition, the Tuesday Musical Club Solo Competition, the Sawhill Piano Competition and the International Beethoven Sonata Competition. He has also been named a Gold Medalist in the International Piano Recording Competition, sponsored by the National Guild of Piano Teachers. He has performed as soloist with several orchestras, including the Dallas Civic Symphony Orchestra, the Milledgeville Chamber Orchestra, the Arkansas Chamber Orchestra and the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra under the direction of guest conductor Timothy Russell. Andrews began his college training as a student of Pierrette Mouledous at Eastfield College. Later, his principal studies in performance were with Alfred Mouledous at Southern Methodist University where he earned the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in piano performance and piano pedagogy. Pedagogy studies were under the tutelage of Louise Bianchi and David Karp. Andrews continued performance studies at the University of Colorado under the guidance of Peter Amstutz and Paul Parmelee and received the Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance degree. Currently, Andrews is director of keyboard at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., where he teaches applied piano, piano pedagogy, piano literature and music theory. He has previously taught on the faculties of Georgia College, Arkansas College, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, the Interlochen National Music Camp, the Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony Piano Camp and the famed Piano Preparatory Program at Southern Methodist University.
