Eastfield College Diversity Speakers Series presents “The Challenges and Opportunities of Multi-generational Campuses” on October 6 in Building S, Room 101. This seminar will be presented by Dr. Kelli Parrott, from 10 a.m. – Noon and 1 – 3 p.m.
The morning workshop is designed to specifically focus on the generational differences of students and employees in a college environment. For perhaps the first time in U.S. history, there are four vibrant, active generations on our college campuses, both among our students and among the colleagues with whom we work. However, according to Howe and Strauss (1991), these generations view the world and the workplace very differently. This discussion will examine the theory that helps to understand the differences, as well as explore the concrete challenges and opportunities created by these fascinating generations.
The afternoon workshop will begin with an exercise as participants move to examine small group and large group dynamics and how these dynamics manifest themselves in issues of difference. With the number of Latino and African American students on the Eastfield College campus, participants will briefly discuss racial identity development for these students as well as Caucasian students.
Dr. Parrott currently serves as the Director of Student Affairs Administration and is an Assistant Professor in the college of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M University. As an educator, some of her previous presentation venues include: The National Academy for Education Administration International Forum on Educational Leadership in Beijing, P. R. China, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, and The China - U.S. Relations Conference.
