Fall Dance Performance Features Students and Special Guests
Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004
8 p.m.
Brookhaven College, Performance Hall

With performances featuring students, as well as special guests, the Brookhaven College Dancers’ Theatre will entertain audiences Nov. 12-14 at the School of the Arts Performance Hall. The show is an effort among students in Brookhaven College School of the Arts dance courses and invited guests such as the Newman Smith High School dance group, Gallery in Motion, Dallas Ballet Theatre and the Plano Metropolitan Ballet.

The show will feature both modern and ballet performances with a special piece titled “Rhythms” that uses both kinds of movement. Students from several classes will take part in the program, including those taking classes from Kirt Hathaway, artist-in-residence for the dance program at the School of the Arts. Hathaway has performed as a soloist with the Cincinnati and Houston ballets, and as a principal dancer with Ballet de Santiago. He has taught for many regional and professional ballet companies, serves on the Regional Dance America National Board of Directors, and together with his wife, founded the Collin County Ballet Theater in 2001.

Other instructors include Anna Marie Ewert, founder of Ewert and Company dance company; Lela Bell, who also teaches at the Dallas Black Dance Theatre; and Shannon Tate, co-founder of Ground Level Dance Company.

Dancers’ Theatre is the performance company extension of the Brookhaven College School of the Arts Dance Department. The dance company performs concerts three times a year, for all levels and ages of dancers. They also perform regularly for The Dallas Morning News Dance Festival and the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival. The Dance Department at Brookhaven College offers classical ballet, burlesque, salsa, modern, tap, jazz and hip hop courses for college credit or personal enrichment.

Performances are Nov. 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 14 at 2:30 p.m. at the Brookhaven College main campus, located at 3939 Valley View Lane in Farmers Branch. Tickets are available at the School of the Arts Box Office for $6 for general admission, $4 for senior adults and students. The Box Office is open Monday-Friday from 1-5 p.m.  Call 972-860-4118.
