- June 1999 to Present, provide Independent Professional Services in five areas:
- Supervisor, Armes Family Ranch, a calf/cow operation, with oversight duties that include pasture/grass/crop management, water and land conservation, and ranch planning.
- Member, Board of Directors, Southwest Securities, the largest full-service securities company in the region; SWS Audit Committee member and member of the Governance Committee.
- Former member, 40/86 (formerly Conseco) Mutual Fund Group Board of Directors; as one of five independent directors, served on all committees.
- Former member, Steering Committee of the Education Commission of the States, overseeing policy directions for the organization as mandated by the 50 governors who appoint its membership and designate its educational priorities.
- Trustee Emeritus, Association of Graduates of the U.S. Military Academy, as a result of fifteen consecutive years of service, continuing an active leadership role that has spanned three decades.
- January 1988 to June 1999, President, Dallas Citizens Council.

- January 1965 – January 1966, Research Associate, Statewide Comprehensive Study of Higher Education in Virginia; edited an eleven-volume study – co-authored the volume on two-year colleges in Virginia and authored the study of faculty for all colleges in Virginia.

- July 1959 – June 1963, Manufacturing Supervisor and Regional Sales Representative, Reynolds Metals Company.
- June 1954 – July 1959, Infantry Officer, U. S. Army, Airborne Ranger; served as aide-de-camp to the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Caribbean and accompanied the General on numerous State visits to South America.

- Born in Fort Worth, Texas. Married to Nancy Armes LeCroy for sixteen years.

- Identified in a nationwide study by The University of Texas at Austin as one of the nation’s most distinguished educational leaders and noted as one of fifty “transformational leaders” in the community college field, 1988.
- LeCroy Scholars Program established in 1990 by community leaders; to date, approximately 175 student scholars have completed the program, which was the second scholarship program created by faulty and staff of the Dallas Community Colleges.
- The Center for Educational Telecommunications at the Dallas Community Colleges named The R. Jan LeCroy Center for Educational Telecommunications in recognition of leadership in the use of technology to facilitate student learning.
- National Leadership Award, 2003, American Association of Community Colleges.
- Outstanding Service Award, 2005, the Association of Graduates of North Texas of the United States Military Academy.
