Legislative Priorities
Learn more about DCCCD’s top legislative priorities for the 80th Legislative Session:

Under the proposed New Community College Compact With Texas, base funding is required to fulfill the community college mission. Colleges cannot innovate or experiment when the focus of their concern is an inadequate funding base.
In the proposed New Community College Compact With Texas, achieving the goals of Closing the Gaps requires a demonstration of the commitment on the part of community colleges to innovation and outcomes. In the first two years of the New Compact, half of the funds set aside should be allocated equally between those two categories.
The state must support increased base funding and invest in the state’s financial aid programs so that community colleges like DCCCD can remain affordable and maintain efficiency.
DCCCD also requests continued funding for the STARLINK program and urges the Texas Legislature to adopt state purchasing procedures proposed by the Texas Association of Community College Officers.
