Thank you for urging your state legislators to make the Dallas County Community College District a priority by supporting these three primary priorities: base funding, incentive funding and affordability.

  1. Funding — The legislature should support the Coordinating Board’s recommendation of increased funding for community colleges, which could result in $59 million additional dollars for DCCCD to continue its mission of preparing students to become productive and responsible contributors in our communities. This can only be done with adequate funding from the state.

    • Employee benefits — The state must maintain its commitment to fund employee benefits, including adjustments for inflation.

    • A contingency fund for enrollment growth should be established for community colleges since our funding is based on historical enrollments.

  2. Incentive funding should be provided for innovation and outcomes. This type of funding would allow community colleges the opportunity to be innovative and invent better methods for student success while tracking outcomes using accountability measures.

  3. Affordability — Low community college tuition is the best form of financial aid for students.

    • DCCCD does its part by offering the fourth-lowest tuition rate among all community colleges in Texas ($39 per credit hour, effective January 2007). The legislature must support increased base funding and invest in the state’s financial aid programs so that community colleges like DCCCD can remain affordable and maintain efficiency.
