Fitch Ratings has affirmed its “AAA” rating for the Dallas County Community College District’s outstanding general obligation debt, which comprises $372 million in GO bonds and $2.1 million in maintenance tax notes. This statewide conference will offer professionals who work with foster youth a variety of new ideas, best practices and other information that can help them better serve those students. As the 21st season of Arts and Letters Live moves toward its conclusion in June, the Dallas Museum of Art and the Dallas County Community College District — a community partner — celebrate the works of authors who amuse, mystify and delight readers. A new state law requires all students to choose a program of study. You can’t get a copy of your official transcript unless you choose your program of study by the time you complete 45 credit hours. A one-day event, “Be the Change,” will bring together volunteers to clean up the Great Trinity Forest on Saturday, April 28. DCCCD is encouraging students to pledge to complete their associate degree or certificate. Judy Blume’s fans will have a chance to meet her and hear more about her life and work during a program presented by DCCCD on Thursday, April 19, as part of the Arts and Letters Live series sponsored by the Dallas Museum of Art. Fifteen budding artists took center stage at an awards ceremony held April 5 by the Dallas County Community College District Foundation to recognize student talents in music, writing and the visual arts. Betheny Reid, president of the DCCCD Foundation and associate vice chancellor for development, has been named a 2012 recipient of the CASE Commonfund Institutionally Related Foundation Award. The three finalists in the search for president of Richland College will participate in open forums so they can share their thoughts with students, faculty, staff and community members. Third-generation ocean explorer Fabien Cousteau will speak to students involved with the DCCCD Community College STEM Scholars and Fellows Institute on April 12 and 13, 2012. Choose from five different educational tracks at this second-annual event, Thursday, April 5, at Eastfield College. For “Bits and Bites” of spirits, sweets and savory things, El Centro College is the place to be Sunday, March 25, as area chefs lend their hands and their talents to raise funds for ECC's culinary arts program. DCCCD service learning students who need to earn service hours for the spring semester can do that and give the gift of life at the same time March 26. On Friday, March 2, 2012, an army of 1,000 volunteers — all employees of the Dallas County Community College District — fanned out across Dallas County to lend their hands and hearts to agencies that needed their help with community service projects. A select group of DCCCD employees were recognized for excellence on the job during a special program on Friday, Feb. 24. A free resource fair for women veterans will include a job fair, plus sessions about health care, employment benefits and other resources. DCCCD’s third annual African American Male Academic Bowl — called “Aiming for the Stars” — tested the brain power and academic skills of 4th- through 7th-graders at North Lake College on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012. Wesley Jameson, a resident of Duncanville, was sworn in on Tuesday, Jan. 3, as the newest member of the Dallas County Community College District’s board of trustees. On Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, members of the DCCCD board of trustees selected W. Wesley Jameson to fill the seat left vacant by Trustee Kitty Boyle. In the spring, 46 DCCCD students will have a special opportunity to learn about space as well as science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Thanks to a holiday program launched 10 years ago, students in need now benefit from a campus thrift store year-round. Cedar Valley and Mountain View college students will benefit from scholarships as well as practical experience and networking opportunities. He fills the position of Kim Green, who retired on Aug. 31, 2011. “Las Llaves del Éxito” (“The Keys to Success”), will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the University of North Texas-Dallas. Metal sculptures by DCCCD students are sprinkled through the Discovery Gardens at this year’s Texas State Fair. After 15 years of continuous service and leadership, DCCCD Trustee Kitty Boyle announced her retirement during the board of trustees' regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 5.
